Get  a chance to visit a sami camp, and learn more about reindeer farming, Sami culture and history with Aurora Husky Tours. 

Visit the Oskal’s and their reindeer at the Aurora Husky camp in Målselv. The Oskal is a genuine local Sami family making their living the same way their ancestors did herding their reindeer and keeping traditions alive. Learn about the Sami history, their culture and way of life.

 

Reindeer farming

The reindeer belong to the deer family, and has adapted to the life far north and high up. One most often separate between domestic and wild reindeer. Reindeer farming originated among the Sami population, often across the borders of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Today one can find approximately 3000 reindeer "farms" in Norway, most of them are located in Finnmark, Troms, Nordland, Trøndelag, Møre og Romsdal and Hedmark.

 

Choose between a 11.00 am and 7.00 pm start.
